Rancho Ballena is located between Ramona and Santa Ysabel, California, nestled in a quiet little valley at the foot of the Ballena summits.

Rancho Ballena commenced thoroughbred breeding operations in 1995 with the purchase of five old, but genetically rich broodmares sired by Poker, Silent Screen, Pia Star, What A Pleasure and Spectacular Bid. Three generations of horses later, Rancho Ballena breeds and races thoroughbreds utilizing a breeding philosophy emphasizing the great bloodlines of the past Rancho Ballena now has racing prospects by Atticus, Bernstein, Buddha, Cryptoclearance, Decarchy, Devil’s Bag, Holy Bull, Momentum, Stormy Atlantic, and soon by Bandini, Bertrando and Marino Marini.

Rancho Ballena's commitment to quality and service goes beyond breeding and selling excellent individuals. One on one care makes us different from other farms as well as the option we offer to re-train, convert and sell our and our clients’ former runners into sport horses, providing these athletes with a second career for their years ahead.  Whether as future dressage, hunter, jumper or 3-day event horses, Rancho Ballena provides the requisite training to channel these ex-racehorses into the sport discipline best suited to their individual talents.
